How to move around Mexico City (CDMX)? One can think that moving around using public transportation can be complicated, but the truth is that most of the metropolis is covered by a transportation system that includes the Metro, the Metrobús, the Cablebús, and busses that allow anybody to access any part of the city with relative ease (compared to other large cities in the world) with a combination of these different systems.
It’s true that for the residents of CDMX, as for international travelers, the service provided by Uber has become a convenient and important tool (even though it hasn’t been the most affordable lately) that can complement these services.
The subway is your best ally
El Metro de la CDMX sigue siendo el medio de transporte más importante para millones de capitalinos debido a la extensión de su cobertura y el costo accesible de $5 pesos. El sistema del Metro cuenta con 12 líneas (aunque la Línea 12 se encuentra temporalmente inservible debido a un reciente accidente) y por lo general las estaciones más concurridas por los turistas son las que cubren el centro histórico, el Parque de Chapultepec, y el área de Reforma/Zona Rosa.
Las estaciones de Zócalo, Bellas Artes, Auditorio, Glorieta de Insurgentes, Chapultepec, y Polanco; son las que entran en esta categoría y aunque se encuentran en líneas diferentes no es difícil transbordar entre diferentes líneas; en cada estación hay mapas del sistema de Metro fáciles de descifrar y que le permiten al turista poder viajar por todo el sistema sin problema.

The Metro System of CDMX is still the most important public transportation service for millions of residents due to the extensive area that it covers and its accessible cost of $5 pesos per ride. The Metro System has 12 metro lines (even though Línea 12 is temporarily out of service due to a recent accident)
Generally the stations that are mostly used by tourists cover the entire historic center of the city, as well as Chapultepec Park, and the area of Paseo de la Reforma/Zona Rosa. These stations include Zócalo, Bellas Artes, Auditorio, Glorieta de Insurgentes, Chapultepec, and Polanco; and although they’re located on different lines within the system, it’s not difficult to change Metro lines as they’re all included on the maps that are found within each system and are easy to decipher, allowing tourists to move around the system without a hitch.
